Robinhood Valuation Gap Sparks Concerns of Overpayment

Share

Rothschild and Co Redburn is not alone in its skepticism about Robinhood's valuation. Morgan Stanley, while upgrading the brokerage to Overweight from Equal Weight, has raised concerns that investors are paying too much for growth that hasn't yet materialized.

The broker's revenue is expected to compound at 23% through 2028, reaching $8 billion, but this estimate is based on the company's ability to monetize its existing customer base through subscriptions, interest income, and clearing economics. Morgan Stanley analyst Michael Cyprys argues that there is 'increasing evidence' that Robinhood's expanding product set is improving the economics of its existing customers.

However, the Ninth Circuit's recent ruling on sports-event contracts has created uncertainty around one of the company's fastest-growing revenue lines. The decision also addressed related cases involving Kalshi and Crypto.com, highlighting the regulatory risks facing the prediction-market business.

While investors are optimistic about Robinhood's prospects, with Morgan Stanley raising its price target to $150 and Piper Sandler lifting its target to $145, there is still a valuation gap between these forecasts and Rothschild and Co Redburn's target of $80. This divergence captures the debate surrounding Robinhood after its latest rally.
