Rockstar Draws Modding Guidelines Ahead of GTA 6 Release
Rockstar Games has introduced new modding guidelines that set boundaries for players and creators modifying its games. The company, known for the Grand Theft Auto series, has prohibited modifications that alter or expand official storylines, plots, missions, characters, or other elements of a game's established content.
The rules also restrict unofficial multiplayer projects, cross-game content, and commercial activity. Mixing Rockstar games' content with intellectual property from other franchises is not allowed, nor are mods featuring abusive, sensitive, or harassing content.
Modders cannot generate revenue through real-money trading, cryptocurrency, or the sale of in-game virtual currency for real money without official authorization. This limits monetisation models that could be incorporated into community-created content.
The guidelines apply to Rockstar's games broadly and are particularly relevant ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6's release on November 19.
