Rockstar GTA VI Currency Plans Spark Solana Token Frenzy
Documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have sparked speculation about Rockstar Games' plans for Grand Theft Auto VI, including a proposed in-game currency called 'Sharkbux' and its possible implementation on Solana.
The documents describe Sharkbux as a proprietary virtual currency tied to the GTA VI ecosystem, but note that it would not operate like a typical meme coin. Instead of allowing players to freely transfer Sharkbux between themselves, transfers would be under company-controlled mechanisms.
A supplemental submission dated Aug. 24 suggests that the project could use a public blockchain, with the currency represented as an SPL token on Solana, subject to legal and operational review. However, this setup is described as a possible technical architecture rather than a completed deployment.
The presence of TAKE2 tokens in a Solana wallet has also fueled speculation, but it remains unclear whether Take-Two Interactive or Rockstar Games created or endorsed the token.
