Router Protocol Winds Down Operations Amid Financial Challenges

Share

Router Protocol is ceasing operations on September 30, 2026. The move comes after the team behind the protocol announced their decision to wind down due to thin liquidity across Web3, a shift of capital towards artificial intelligence, falling revenue from bridge fees, high operating costs, and demand that has concentrated on a handful of large chains.

The team worked on Router Protocol for more than four years. They explored commercialisation, technology licensing, and a sale but did not find a viable way to continue. The protocol will coordinate with centralised exchanges to remove ROUTE trading pairs by September 30, although the cut-off date may vary depending on the exchange.

The wind-down does not affect Router Chain, which was shut down in September 2025. However, Router Nitro, the bridge itself, and the Router app will close on September 30. The team plans to release selected technical components as open-source software after that date.
