Russia Approves Trading in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT
Russia has given its approval for trading in three major digital assets: Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether's USDT. This move opens up new opportunities for institutional participation in these cryptocurrencies, which are widely used globally.
The decision specifically covers Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, Ethereum, the second-largest, and USDT, a dollar-pegged stablecoin that facilitates trading, liquidity management, and value transfer across blockchain networks.
By permitting trading in these three assets, Russia is creating additional avenues for institutional flows into major crypto assets. This selective approval highlights the country's evolving approach to cryptocurrency markets, which aims to balance institutional access with regulatory control.
XRP, another major cryptocurrency, was excluded from the approved list, underscoring the differentiated treatment of cryptocurrencies by regulators. The decision may strengthen the position of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT within Russia's developing digital asset ecosystem, particularly for institutional investors seeking established trading infrastructure and regulatory clarity.
