The Bank of Russia has given the green light for licensed trading venues in the country to offer Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT. This decision comes into effect on September 1, 2026, after being announced on August 11.

Non-qualified investors will have an annual limit of 300,000 rubles per year when trading these assets through each intermediary. Qualified investors, however, face no such restrictions and can trade without limits.

The Bank of Russia used market capitalization, daily trading volume, and five years of price history as criteria for selecting which cryptocurrencies to approve. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT met all requirements, while XRP did not make the cut due to its regulatory record.
