Russia Considers Cryptocurrency Collateral Option

Share

Russian lawmakers have proposed exploring the use of digital currency as collateral in business transactions.

The idea, contained in a decision by the Council for the Development of the Digital Economy under the Federation Council, aims to clarify civil legislation to allow digital currencies to be used as security for obligations.

Senator Artyom Sheikin noted that this mechanism could expand tools available to businesses and make it easier for them to understand how to use digital currency.

However, not all assets are considered suitable for such operations. Stablecoins must comply with established Russian cryptocurrency regulations and originate from jurisdictions without sanctions against Russia.
