Russia Expands Crypto Access with New Regulations

Share

Russia has implemented new regulations for cryptocurrency trading, effective September 1. The rules allow both qualified and non-qualified investors to trade through regulated intermediaries. This marks a significant expansion of regulated crypto access in Russia.

Major banks are preparing the necessary infrastructure to support these new services. Meanwhile, the Bank of Russia has proposed capping banks' crypto-related risk at 1% of their capital. Non-qualified investors will face annual purchase limits, but cryptocurrency payments within Russia remain prohibited for now.

Banks in Russia will begin reporting crypto-related risks and turnover from January 2027 onwards. This move is part of the country's efforts to create a more transparent and regulated environment for cryptocurrencies.
