Russia's new cryptocurrency law is set to take effect on September 1, 2026. The law aims to bring leading cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum (ETH), and stablecoin USDT into a regulated market under the authority of the Bank of Russia.

The regulation will benefit retail investors by allowing them to access these assets through authorized platforms. However, purchasing limits will still apply for retail investors, and cryptocurrency payments within Russia remain banned.

Businesses must review and meet the new licensing standards or risk sanctions by July 1, 2027. This means they can use cryptocurrencies for international transactions, bypassing existing banking restrictions.
