Russians Flock to Cryptocurrency Amid SWIFT Sanctions
Russia has become a hub for cryptocurrency adoption, with over 20 million Russians investing in crypto products. According to Deputy Finance Minister Ivan Chebeskov, these funds amount to nearly $43 billion.
The majority of this capital is being used in three areas: foreign trade settlements, mining, and speculative trading or savings on external exchanges.
In terms of foreign trade, stablecoins are the preferred choice due to their low volatility. This allows Russians to bypass SWIFT sanctions and import key goods without issue.
Russia's large hashrate puts it second only behind the U.S., with miners investing in electrical transformers, data centers, and electricity to sustain their activity. This creates jobs and generates taxes for the government.
