RWA Trading Volume Surges to $107 Billion, Matching Crypto Futures
RWAs (Real World Assets) have caught up with cryptos in terms of trading volume, with RWA futures reaching $107.6 billion in July, roughly matching crypto futures at $105.7 billion. This surge in RWA trading is attributed to a 142-fold increase over nine months.
The report from OKX and Token Terminal highlights the growth in open interest for RWA contracts, which rose by 167 times to $1.72 billion, while crypto futures open interest fell to $7.1 billion.
Retail traders were more active in highly volatile markets, whereas institutional accounts generally held larger positions for longer periods. The market structure also varied across asset classes, with equity contracts accounting for 83% of RWA open interest but generating only 72% of single-name equity trading volume.
