S&P Global Buys Blockchain Security Firm OpenZeppelin

Share

S&P Global has made another significant move into the world of blockchain and cryptocurrency by acquiring OpenZeppelin, a leading provider of blockchain security solutions. The deal is expected to complement S&P Global's existing digital asset business, which includes risk assessment and data provision for financial markets moving onto blockchain infrastructure.

OpenZeppelin brings a wealth of experience in smart contract security and onchain technology risk assessment, with over 900 security engagements completed and its smart contracts supporting more than $37 trillion in value transferred. The company will operate as a separate S&P Global business unit, maintaining its open source contracts library free and publicly available.

CEO Demian Brener will remain at the helm of OpenZeppelin, reporting to S&P Global Ratings President Yann Le Pallec. The acquisition is seen as a strategic move by S&P Global to expand its presence in the digital asset market, which has been growing rapidly in recent years.
