S&P 500 Leads Bitcoin in 2026 Despite Crypto Rally
The S&P 500 index has outperformed Bitcoin in 2026 so far, despite the cryptocurrency's strong August rally. According to data from Fixygen, the S&P 500 has risen by approximately 13% year-to-date as of August 31, while the Nasdaq is up 13.6%. Bitcoin, on the other hand, remains about 11% below its year-to-date level even after the August rally.
However, over the past six months, the situation has been reversed, with Bitcoin outperforming both the S&P 500 and gold. This highlights the importance of considering time frames when comparing asset returns.
Bitcoin's volatility remains a key concern, as it can quickly recover from losses or decline in value just as rapidly. The stock market, on the other hand, tends to take longer to bounce back from downturns.
