S&P Global Acquires Crypto Security Firm OpenZeppelin for Blockchain Expansion
S&P Global has made another significant move into the crypto space by acquiring OpenZeppelin, a prominent security firm that secures over $250 billion in digital assets. This acquisition is part of S&P Global's broader push into cryptocurrency infrastructure.
OpenZeppelin's technology underpins more than $37 trillion in value transferred through its smart-contract libraries, and the company has completed over 900 security engagements since its founding in 2015. With OpenZeppelin on board, S&P Global will gain an on-chain security layer to complement its data and analytics products.
Yann Le Pallec, President of S&P Global Ratings, said that this acquisition is part of the company's strategy to bring trusted data, benchmarks, and transparent risk assessment to markets as they move onchain. He added that OpenZeppelin's technology will give traditional financial institutions and DeFi-native companies alike the confidence to build and transact in this new environment.
