S&P Global Acquires OpenZeppelin to Bolster Digital Assets Risk Assessment
S&P Global has agreed to acquire OpenZeppelin, a leading smart contract security firm, and will integrate its code auditing and risk assessment services into its S&P Global Ratings division. The acquisition is expected to bring greater transparency and trust to the digital assets market.
OpenZeppelin's open-source libraries of smart contract components have been widely used in DeFi applications, underpinning over $37 trillion in value transferred. The company has run more than 900 security engagements, according to its own figures.
The deal will see OpenZeppelin operate as a business unit within S&P Global Ratings, with Demian Brener remaining as CEO and reporting directly to Yann Le Pallec, president of S&P Global Ratings.
S&P Global has stated that the acquisition is not expected to have a material impact on its financial results. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is subject to closing conditions and an expected closing date was not provided.
