S&P Global Bolsters Crypto Presence with Acquisition of Smart Contract Security Firm
S&P Global, a leading financial data giant, has made its latest move into the crypto space by acquiring OpenZeppelin, a smart contract security firm. The deal will give S&P Global access to OpenZeppelin's tools and technical expertise as banks and asset managers increasingly turn to blockchain networks for tokenized financial products.
The acquisition is part of S&P Global's broader expansion into digital assets, which it sees as a key area for growth. Yann Le Pallec, President of S&P Global Ratings, said that OpenZeppelin's technology and expertise will complement its existing smart contract and on-chain risk assessment capabilities.
OpenZeppelin was founded in 2015 and has developed open-source smart contract libraries and provides security assessments and development services. The company has worked with major players in the crypto space, including those behind popular stablecoins. With this acquisition, S&P Global is positioning itself to provide risk assessment and benchmarking services for institutions entering the on-chain market.
