S&P Global Buys Crypto Security Firm OpenZeppelin for Blockchain Expansion
S&P Global has announced its acquisition of OpenZeppelin, a leading crypto security firm. This move is part of S&P's broader push into cryptocurrency infrastructure and aims to expand its presence in blockchain and digital-asset security.
OpenZeppelin's technology underpins more than $37 trillion in value transferred through its smart-contract libraries. The company has also completed over 900 security engagements since its founding in 2015. S&P Global noted that the acquisition strengthens its position in onchain finance as institutional adoption of blockchain infrastructure grows.
The deal adds OpenZeppelin's expertise to S&P's growing digital asset business, including its data and analytics products. Yann Le Pallec, President of S&P Global Ratings, stated that this move will give traditional financial institutions and DeFi-native companies the confidence to build and transact in the new environment.
