S&P Global Buys OpenZeppelin for Blockchain Security Expertise
S&P Global has made a significant move into the blockchain sector by acquiring OpenZeppelin, a leading provider of smart contract security services. The acquisition marks S&P's second major foray into blockchain this week, following its $110 million investment in data provider Kaiko.
OpenZeppelin's technology forms the foundation for many stablecoins and tokenized investment products, with its code libraries facilitating over $37 trillion in cumulative digital asset transactions. The company has conducted over 900 security reviews, uncovering more than 10,000 potential vulnerabilities prior to deployment on live blockchain networks.
The acquisition reflects S&P's growing recognition of the importance of technological security risks in the blockchain space. As Yann Le Pallec, President of S&P Global Ratings, noted, 'OpenZeppelin's technology and expertise will complement our smart contract and onchain technology risk assessment capabilities.'
