S&P Global Introduces Risk Tool for $10 Billion Crypto Vault Market
S&P Global has introduced a new risk assessment tool for the digital asset lending vault market, which has grown to $10 billion. The Vault Risk Assessment framework evaluates six key risk areas, including credit quality, liquidity mismatches, and blockchain security, to enhance transparency in these investment structures. This move comes as deposits in crypto vaults surged from $1.5 billion in 2024 to $10 billion by September 2026, reflecting the rising institutional interest in blockchain finance.
The tool does not provide traditional credit ratings but offers a standardized approach to measuring impairment risks for deposited capital. S&P Global’s expansion into digital assets aligns with its broader strategy, which includes stablecoin assessments, ratings for decentralized finance protocols, and investments in blockchain data firms like Kaiko. The company also plans to acquire OpenZeppelin, a blockchain security firm, further strengthening its digital asset services.
SPGI stock closed at $386.27, down 0.49%, but edged up 0.07% in pre-market trading following the announcement. This initiative underscores S&P Global’s commitment to integrating blockchain technology into its financial analysis and data services.
