S&P Global Snaps Up OpenZeppelin in Onchain Risk Push
S&P Global has agreed to acquire OpenZeppelin, expanding its digital asset risk business into onchain technology. The smart contract security firm will retain its name and audit team as part of S&P's growing presence in the crypto space.
The acquisition brings a provider of smart contract audits and open-source developer libraries into S&P Global's fold. OpenZeppelin, founded in 2015, combines security assessments and secure development services with its Contracts libraries, which underpin more than $37 trillion in value transferred on Ethereum and other EVM-compatible blockchains.
The deal moves S&P closer to the code layer beneath stablecoins, tokenized funds, and DeFi protocols. OpenZeppelin's CEO, Demian Brener, will continue to lead the company as it operates as a separate business unit within S&P Global Ratings.
