Sachem Head Acquires 6.9% Stake in Ionic Digital Amid AI Shift
Sachem Head Capital Management has acquired a significant stake in Ionic Digital, gaining exposure to its shift toward AI and high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure. The activist investor now holds a 6.9% beneficial ownership stake in the company, comprising 3,169,808 Class A shares.
The stake was obtained through Ionic's $400 million private placement announced on June 26, which valued the company at $2 billion pre-money. Other investors included Attestor, Oaktree Capital Management, Citadel, and Weiss Asset Management. Sachem Head did not disclose any plans to campaign for control or board representation, instead maintaining a role as a significant investor supporting Ionic's transition.
Ionic Digital emerged from Celsius Network's bankruptcy and listed on the Nasdaq Exchange on July 28 under the ticker IOND. The company received mining assets, $195 million in cash, and 540 bitcoin in exchange for issuing 37 million shares to former Celsius creditors.
