Safe Self-Transfers: What Happens When You Send Crypto to Your Own Wallet Address
Sending cryptocurrency to your own wallet address is generally safe and does not result in losing funds. The transaction simply moves assets from one address you control to another, which you also control.
For example, if you have two wallets: Wallet A with 1 ETH and Wallet B with no ETH, sending 0.2 ETH from Wallet A to Wallet B will decrease Wallet A's balance by approximately 0.8 ETH minus the network fee and increase Wallet B's balance by 0.2 ETH.
However, if you attempt to send cryptocurrency from an address back to itself, the result depends on the wallet, exchange, and blockchain. Many wallets prevent or discourage self-transfers because they have no practical benefit.
