Samson Mow Challenges Zcash’s 1000 Percent Rally
Bitcoin maximalist and JAN3 CEO Samson Mow has questioned the long-term viability of Zcash’s recent rally, which saw the privacy coin surge over 1,000% year-to-date. Speaking on the ZEC/USDT chart, Mow argued that Zcash’s market capitalization has been artificially inflated and that the market will eventually correct back to its mean.
Mow and other Bitcoin proponents criticize Zcash for several reasons, including its historical 'dev tax,' high fund fees, and centralized governance. They also argue that Bitcoin’s layer-2 solutions, like the Lightning Network, already provide sufficient privacy, making Zcash redundant. Meanwhile, Mow’s company, JAN3, predicts Bitcoin could reach $1 million between 2028 and 2033, suggesting that diverting liquidity to altcoins is strategically unwise.
Zcash supporters, however, attribute the coin’s gains to real infrastructure improvements, such as the upcoming NU7 upgrade, which aims to speed up block generation. Additionally, the launch of pools on THORChain and a $306 million inflow into Grayscale’s spot ETF have supported ZEC’s liquidity, despite a recent $93 million outflow from the fund. However, regulatory pressure looms, and the coming weeks will determine whether Zcash can maintain its current range or face a significant correction.
