Samson Mow warns Zcash rally unsustainable as NU7 upgrade launches
Bitcoin maximalist and JAN3 CEO Samson Mow has questioned the sustainability of Zcash's recent 1,000% year-to-date surge. Mow highlighted ZEC's correction to $1,300 after peaking near $1,600, suggesting the rally is unsustainable. He argues that Zcash's market cap is artificially inflated and predicts a return to more realistic valuations. Mow and other Bitcoin proponents view privacy-focused altcoins as unnecessary, given Bitcoin's layer-2 solutions like the Lightning Network.
Mow criticized Zcash's governance structure, high fees, and past staffing issues at the Electric Coin Company. He contrasted this with his own prediction that Bitcoin could reach $1 million between 2028 and 2033, based on models like OMEGA60. From this perspective, diverting capital to altcoins is seen as strategically unwise, potentially slowing Bitcoin's path to mass adoption.
Zcash supporters, however, attribute the surge to infrastructure improvements, including the upcoming NU7 hard fork, which aims to triple block generation speed. The coin's liquidity has also been bolstered by new pools on THORChain and significant inflows into Grayscale's ZEC ETF, despite a recent $93 million outflow. These developments clash with regulatory pressures, leaving the coin's ability to maintain its $1,280, $1,330 range uncertain.
