Samsung Files Patent for Smart-Contract Crypto Wallet Technology
Samsung Electronics has taken a step into the cryptocurrency space by filing a U.S. patent application for a smart-contract-based cryptocurrency wallet. The proposed technology aims to allow users to request digital-asset transactions through smart contracts without storing private keys directly on their devices.
The system would function by linking addresses and authentication information to a smart contract, which would handle part of the wallet's functions. This approach addresses common security concerns, such as losing or exposing private keys, which could lead to difficulty accessing or losing assets.
Samsung's patent application, titled "First Electronic Device Configured to Generate Smart Contract Set to Perform Wallet Function, Operating Method Thereof, and Second Electronic Device for Performing Digital Asset Transaction Using Smart Contract," was published on July 23 with the number US 2026/0212355. The technology could enable multiple electronic devices, including smartphones, computers, wearables, and home appliances, to manage a single cryptocurrency wallet.
However, the patent filing does not confirm the development of a commercial product. It remains unclear whether the technology will be integrated into Samsung Wallet or if there is a specific launch plan.
