Samsung Galaxy Wallet to Add Stablecoin Support in 61 Countries
Samsung has announced plans to integrate stablecoin support into its Galaxy Wallet app, expanding its functionality beyond credit cards, IDs, and transit passes. The feature, unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event, will allow users to send, receive, and manage stablecoins like USD Coin (USDC) directly within the app. While Samsung has not confirmed a launch date or official partnerships, the move aims to simplify crypto transactions for Galaxy device users, eliminating the need for separate crypto apps or exchange accounts.
The Galaxy Wallet is already available in 61 countries with 19 million users in South Korea alone. Samsung’s smartphone product manager Lee Dinham emphasized the goal of creating an interconnected financial ecosystem that combines payments, rewards, and digital assets. If successful, this could position Samsung as a pioneer in native stablecoin support on smartphones, enabling faster and more reliable digital value transfers.
Analysts highlighted the significance of Samsung’s distribution reach, even though the 800 million device figure mentioned in coverage refers to a broader Galaxy AI target, not stablecoin support. The actual addressable market will be smaller, but it still represents a substantial step in crypto adoption. Industry experts noted that stablecoins within Samsung Wallet could drive everyday spending, distinguishing it from existing crypto infrastructure.
The announcement is part of a broader strategy, including Samsung’s recent investment in Dunamu, the operator of South Korea’s largest exchange, Upbit. This move aligns with Samsung’s long-term plan to build crypto infrastructure, including stablecoin and AI-powered payment solutions. The company’s history in crypto, dating back to its 2019 hardware wallet integration, underscores its commitment to integrating digital assets across multiple layers.
