Samsung Integrates Stablecoin Features into 800 Million Smartphones
Samsung Electronics plans to integrate stablecoin features into its popular Samsung Wallet app on over 800 million smartphones. This move could position the company as a major distribution channel for stablecoins, such as USDC.
The wallet will offer fiat-linked savings and payment accounts by default, allowing users to access stablecoins without needing a separate crypto app or exchange account.
Samsung SDS' investment in Dunamu, operator of Upbit, is also seen as a strategic move to expand into digital-asset infrastructure businesses. This includes stablecoins and AI-based payments.
Joseph Goh from Areta said Samsung's wallet announcement secures distribution, while the Samsung SDS investment in Dunamu secures the infrastructure underneath it.
