Samsung Sets Stage for Stablecoin Expansion with Wallet Integration
Samsung has been gradually adding crypto services to its mobile ecosystem since 2019. The latest move is native stablecoin support for Samsung Wallet, announced at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22, 2026. A mockup displayed a USDC balance with send, receive, and add funds buttons, but the issuer, chain, and custody model remain undisclosed.
The company's investment in Dunamu, the operator of South Korea's largest crypto exchange Upbit, for $408 million reveals Samsung's infrastructure ambitions. The three affiliates - Samsung Securities, Samsung SDS, and Samsung Card - each brought a distinct strategic interest to the deal, with plans to work on tokenized securities issuance, digital payments, and integrating their payment networks.
The real test has not started yet, as the details of the stablecoin infrastructure are still unclear. The company's target is to include stablecoin features in 800 million smartphones by end of 2026, but it remains to be seen how this will actually work.
