Samsung's 800 Million Smartphones to Bring Stablecoins to Mainstream
Samsung, one of the largest technology companies in South Korea, is set to become a major player in the stablecoin distribution market. The company has announced that its Samsung Wallet will support stablecoins on over 800 million new smartphones by default.
This move is not Samsung's first foray into cryptocurrencies. In 2019, it introduced a digital asset wallet through Knox, a hardware-isolated vault with fingerprint or PIN access. The wallet allows users to store and manage various cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ether, and Tron, as well as connect external hardware wallets like Ledger's Nano S and Nano X.
Experts believe that this strategic move will position Samsung as a dominant distributor of stablecoins such as USDC. Joseph Goh, director and head of Asia Pacific at Areta, stated that distribution is the scarce asset in the crypto industry, and Samsung owns a significant portion of it.
