Sandbox Contains Bridge Exploit After Attacker Mints 14.9 Billion SAND Tokens
The Sandbox, a popular blockchain-based gaming platform, has contained a bridge exploit after an attacker minted 14.9 billion unbacked SAND tokens on Base and BNB Smart Chain.
According to security firm PeckShield, the attacker created the unauthorized tokens across two wallets, valuing them at roughly $718 million.
The vulnerability was limited to Base and BNB Smart Chain, while Ethereum and Polygon were unaffected. The Sandbox said no user wallets were compromised in the incident.
The project warned users against trading SAND on affected chains while liquidity remained isolated, and transfers and redemptions were disabled.
