Santander Discloses $4.3M Position in US Spot Bitcoin ETFs Amid Institutional Adoption
Banco Santander, the eurozone's largest bank by market capitalization, has reported owning approximately $4.3 million in US spot Bitcoin ETFs.
The bank's exposure to US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs is not a large position compared to its overall assets of over $1 trillion, but it signals the bank's growing interest in digital assets.
Santander has been building expertise on both sides of the business by holding spot Bitcoin ETFs on its own balance sheet while offering crypto trading services to retail clients through its subsidiary Openbank.
The bank's digital strategy mirrors what several major US banks have done after the SEC approved spot Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024, with Santander expanding its crypto custody and digital asset capabilities across Europe.
