Saylor Compares Bitcoin to Gold: Digital Scarcity Translates to Money
Michael Saylor has likened Bitcoin to gold in its ability to create value from scarcity. According to him, Bitcoin combines computers, digital networks, and cryptography to form 'the first digitally designed monetary network in human history.'
The Strategy founder explained that Bitcoin digitizes monetary assets entirely, ensuring that supply is controlled by publicly available protocols rather than individuals or institutions. This structure makes it difficult to increase the supply of Bitcoin and easier to integrate with software and transfer.
Saylor noted that the proof-of-work mechanism connects Bitcoin to the physical world and consumes real energy in exchange for ledger security. He also pointed out that this mechanism increases the cost of altering past transactions, making the system more secure.
The Bitcoin network is not fixed software but an adaptable system comprised of miners, nodes, developers, capital, and users. Saylor stated that complex functions are left to applications at higher levels, making Bitcoin a foundation for economic value transfer across time and space.
