Saylor Predicts Bitcoin to Continue Compounding at 30% Annually
Michael Saylor believes that Bitcoin will continue to compound at around 30% annually for the next two decades. He made this prediction during an interview in August 2026, where he also discussed his views on cash and traditional assets.
Saylor argues that physical currency is a losing asset, engineered to lose roughly 7% of its purchasing power every year. By contrast, Bitcoin is a bearer asset that has compounded at about 33% annually over the past six years. Saylor believes this trend will continue, citing his own real estate history as evidence.
He notes that the value of an acre of Miami Beach waterfront land increased by a factor of 1,000 in nominal dollars over the course of a century, while the dollar lost about 7% of its economic value per year. This, he says, is because most other currencies lose roughly 14% per year and collapse in about 30 years.
Saylor also discussed his views on where to put one's wealth, citing Vanguard founder John Bogle as an influence. He argues that assets such as cash, residential real estate, commercial real estate, the S&P 500 index, and gold have various drawbacks, including carrying costs, frictions, and logistics.
He concludes that Bitcoin is a scarce asset that can be held securely and moved across borders easily, making it an attractive option for those looking to preserve their wealth. When asked about Elon Musk's 'age of abundance' thesis, Saylor responded that while consumer goods may become abundant, scarcity will persist in the form of desirable goods.
