Saylor Proposes Comprehensive Policy Framework for Digital Economy
Michael Saylor, a prominent Bitcoin advocate and founder of Strategy, has published an article outlining his vision for the digital economy. He argues that Bitcoin should be more widely integrated into the banking and insurance systems, and proposes a comprehensive policy framework to achieve this goal.
Saylor believes that artificial intelligence will significantly increase productivity in individuals and businesses, but notes that the current regulatory environment hinders the growth of the digital asset sector. He advocates for simplifying rules regarding digital asset issuance, which could help 10 million new companies access capital.
The Strategy founder also suggests creating a clear regulatory path for banks, fintech companies, and technology platforms to issue digital dollar products. He argues that this would enable organizations issuing digital dollars to compete on terms of yield, and that banks should be allowed to offer Bitcoin custody services and provide Bitcoin-backed loans.
Saylor believes that the current 1,250% risk weighting applied to some crypto asset risks under Basel regulations is too strict, and advocates for differentiation between client-based custody services, Bitcoin-backed loans, and banks' own Bitcoin positions. He also notes that tokenized securities require more than just moving existing securities onto the blockchain.
