Saylor Targets $3T in Tokenized Digital Credit with Bitcoin-Backed Instruments
Strategy's Michael Saylor is setting his sights on the global credit market, which stands at $300 trillion. His ambitious goal is to capture at least 1% of this market through digital credit instruments backed by Bitcoin.
The executive chairman argues that these digital credit instruments can replace a slice of the traditional credit market by offering investors low volatility and attractive returns, all while being denominated in or collateralized by Bitcoin.
At the center of this strategy is STRC, Strategy's Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock. This instrument offers an annualized variable dividend of approximately 11.5%, paid out monthly, with cited volatility of around 2%.
The key engineering trick is overcollateralization, where these instruments are backed by significantly more Bitcoin than their face value, insulating holders from Bitcoin's notorious price swings.
