Sberbank, Russia's largest bank, plans to launch a digital depository by December 1, 2026. The system will record client cryptocurrency ownership and process transactions outside the main blockchain.

The digital depository is based on the 'On Digital Currencies and Digital Rights' bill passed by the State Duma in July 2023. This legislation creates a framework for crypto trading, custody, and settlement in Russia.

Regulators will oversee the system starting September 1, 2026, when five categories of regulated market participants begin operating under Bank of Russia oversight.
