SBF Claims Evidence Blocked in $10B FTX Loss Case, SCOTUS Review Pending
Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), the founder of collapsed cryptocurrency exchange FTX, claims that key evidence was blocked in his $10B loss case. In a recent statement, SBF said that District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan allowed prosecutors to present massive loss figures to the jury while restricting the defense's ability to challenge those calculations.
The development comes after SBF's legal team petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to review his November 2023 conviction across seven criminal counts. The defense argues that the trial judge should not have permitted the presentation of multibillion-dollar loss figures without allowing the defense an opportunity for substantive rebuttal.
The $11 billion forfeiture order was upheld by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in June 2026, with the appellate panel ruling that the prosecution's evidence was solid. The Supreme Court is expected to announce whether it will grant or deny the certiorari petition before the conclusion of the fourth quarter of 2026.
