SBI Bolsters Blockchain Strategy with Canton Network Expansion
SBI Holdings has restructured its SBI Security Solutions subsidiary to focus on the Canton Network, expanding its institutional blockchain strategy beyond Ripple and the XRP Ledger.
The new unit, SBI Digital Practice Co. Ltd., will develop financial infrastructure and applications for institutions using Canton, with a focus on implementation support, regulatory compliance, and transaction systems across different countries and currencies.
Canton connects more than 600 institutions and supports over $6 trillion in assets, according to SBI, and has a link to tokenized U.S. Treasuries, providing the Japanese company with a direct connection to the U.S. market.
This move is part of SBI's broader strategy to expand its blockchain operations beyond Ripple, which it has been working with since 2016 through their joint venture SBI Ripple Asia. The new subsidiary will focus on institutional financial infrastructure and cross-border securities, whereas Ripple's infrastructure primarily supports payments, stablecoins, and token issuance.
