PS Plus Subscribers Face Deadline as Dead Island 2 and More Depart

PlayStation Plus subscribers are facing a deadline of August 18 as Sony confirms which games will leave the Extra and Premium catalog. The lineup includes nine titles, with Dead Island 2 and Unicorn Overlord drawing particular attention due to their quality and depth.

The removals reflect a broader industry trend towards subscription-based access rather than permanent ownership. Sony's shift away from physical media support was reinforced earlier this year when it announced plans to stop producing disc-based games by 2028.

Subscribers hoping to hold onto any of the departing titles will need to purchase them outright before the deadline, as access through the subscription itself ends on August 18. The rotating nature of the PS Plus Extra and Premium catalog means that games typically remain available for periods ranging from six months to two years depending on licensing agreements.
