SBI Stablecoin Test Targets Japan-Korea Travel Payments
SBI DigiTrust has launched a stablecoin-based payment test between Japan and South Korea. The project, which aims to complete by December 2026, is led by SBI Group in partnership with NICE Information & Telecommunication and DSRV.
The test focuses on tourist QR payments, where Japanese travelers can pay at NICE-affiliated merchants in South Korea using a stablecoin-based remittance system. The partners will study the payment process from fund movement to settlement instructions, connections between company systems, transaction costs, and the scale of operation.
NICE contributes its existing payment infrastructure and merchant operations, while DSRV examines the blockchain architecture needed to support the settlement process. SBI DigiTrust handles the Japanese regulatory, financial, and digital-asset side of the project.
