SBI Tests Stablecoin Payments for Japan-Korea Travel
SBI DigiTrust is testing stablecoin-based remittances and QR payments between Japan and South Korea with partners NICE Information & Telecommunication and DSRV. The three companies aim to complete the joint verification by the end of December 2026.
The test examines QR payments, fund flows, payment instructions, system connections, and commercial viability. NICE brings a Korean merchant network spanning approximately 1.2 million merchants into the joint study.
The partners have not named a stablecoin, blockchain, exchange model, or commercial launch date yet. SBI DigiTrust handles the Japanese regulatory, financial, and digital-asset side of the project, while NICE examines merchant operations and connections with existing payment systems.
DSRV is responsible for the technical side, studying system design, stablecoin requirements, and connections between blockchain infrastructure and existing systems. The verification will examine transaction size and cost alongside technical feasibility.
