Schumer Targets Trump Family Crypto Gains with Anti-Corruption Bill

Share

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer has introduced the Anti-Corruption Bureau Creation Act, a bill aimed at investigating executive-branch corruption and recovering money obtained through it. The measure targets President Donald Trump's use of public office for private gain, specifically his family's cryptocurrency ventures.

The bill would establish an independent federal agency with investigative powers to hold corrupt officials accountable and recover illicit gains. It also includes a novel claw-back mechanism that allows private plaintiffs and state attorneys general to sue to recover money obtained through corruption.

The legislation faces steep odds, as Republicans control both chambers of Congress. However, its introduction signals Democrats' intent to focus on the Trump family's crypto profits in their 2026 messaging. The bill is co-sponsored by Senators Jeff Merkley, Alex Padilla, and Andy Kim, and endorsed by watchdog groups.

Democrats have framed the measure as a direct response to what they describe as President Trump's use of public office for private gain. They point to alleged gains by the Trump family from lucrative cryptocurrency ventures, including World Liberty Financial, which is tied to foreign governments and has funneled millions to the family.
