Schwartz: XRP Could Overtake Bitcoin with Sharp Growth
David Schwartz, former chief technology officer of Ripple, has sparked attention by suggesting that XRP could potentially overtake Bitcoin in market capitalization. According to a recent interview on X's Spaces, Schwartz believes an 'XRP flippening' is possible, where XRP surpasses Bitcoin as the largest cryptocurrency by market value.
However, Schwartz emphasized that this scenario relies on a sharp increase in XRP's growth pace rather than a decline in Bitcoin's value. He noted that the XRP Ledger (XRPL) structure was designed for faster and more scalable payments, which could enable it to capture a larger share of market growth.
Schwartz also pointed out that market capitalization is influenced by timing and perspective. He recalled that when XRP traded at $0.006 in the past, it seemed unlikely to rise to $0.25. Similarly, he noted that Bitcoin's price increase from $100 to its current value of over $78,000 was unexpected.
Notably, Schwartz acknowledged that XRP has previously narrowed the gap with Bitcoin, reaching second place by market capitalization in 2018. Currently, however, the gap between XRP and Bitcoin is significant, with Bitcoin's market capitalization being approximately 17.7 times larger than XRP's.
