Scrypt Showdown: Dogecoin vs Litecoin Mining Wars Heat Up
The long-standing rivalry between Dogecoin (DOGE) and Litecoin (LTC) is more of an overlap than a true competition, as both coins share the same mining algorithm, Scrypt. Many miners work on both chains simultaneously, making the comparison more interesting.
Despite running on the same algorithm, there are significant differences between the two networks. Dogecoin's block time is about every minute, with a 1MB size limit, whereas Litecoin targets one block every 2.5 minutes. The difficulty adjustment for both coins varies: Dogecoin adjusts it every block using DigiShield, while Litecoin adjusts every 504 blocks.
The block reward for Dogecoin is 10,000 DOGE plus fees, which translates to about 14.4 million new DOGE per day. In contrast, Litecoin's block reward halves every 840,000 blocks and currently sits at 6.25 LTC plus fees. The supply of both coins differs as well: Dogecoin has no end date for issuance but is limited per block, day, and year, while Litecoin has a hard cap of 84 million coins.
