SEC Approves Listing of 3x Bitcoin and 3x Ethereum ETPs on Cboe BZX
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved a rule change for six triple-leveraged products, including Bitcoin and Ethereum funds, allowing Cboe BZX to list and trade them. The approval was granted on October 2, 2026, for the VS Trust's products, which include 3x Bitcoin ETF, 3x Ether ETF, 3x Gold ETF, 3x Silver ETF, 3x Crude Oil ETF, and 3x Natural Gas ETF.
The products are not intended to physically hold the underlying cryptocurrencies but instead track a benchmark comprising a basket of near-term future contracts on the respective assets. The goal is to deliver three times the daily price movement of the benchmark indices.
Volatility Shares LLC, the sponsor firm, will administer the fund operations. The firm currently offers leveraged digital asset products, including 2x Bitcoin ETF and 2x Ether ETF, traded on US stock markets.
The approval is a significant milestone but does not mean the products can immediately enter trading. The registration process must be completed, and the registration statement must attain effectiveness before the securities can be offered in the secondary markets.
