SEC Cancels Crypto Meeting, Delaying Vote on Tailored Offering Rules
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has canceled its planned open meeting to discuss crypto offering rules due to an unforeseen scheduling issue. The meeting, which was scheduled for August 14, was intended to consider a proposal for a tailored regime for investment contracts involving crypto assets.
Chair Paul Atkins had previously floated a four-year startup exemption with a possible $5 million cap, alongside a broader fundraising pathway. If approved, the proposal would have started formal public review and possible revisions.
The delay lands as the Senate pauses work on the CLARITY Act during its five-week recess. The bill needs 60 votes to advance and aims to establish broader federal rules for digital assets.
