SEC Cancels Cryptocurrency Rulemaking Meeting Without Explanation

Share

The SEC's plans to issue new rules governing cryptocurrency offerings were left in limbo after an open meeting was mysteriously cancelled without explanation. The meeting, scheduled for August 14, had been listed on the SEC's calendar with a status flag that said 'Cancelled', but no reason was given.

According to the source, the meeting was intended to consider issuing a proposing release for new rules creating a tailored offering regime for certain investment contracts involving crypto assets. However, the cancellation of the meeting does not necessarily mean that the rulemaking process is dead in the water.

The SEC can still issue a proposing release without holding a public meeting, and the agency has not said whether or when it will reschedule the meeting or issue the proposed rules.
