SEC Chair Paul Atkins is optimistic that the CLARITY Act will move through the Senate within two weeks. The bill, which proposes a framework for regulating digital assets, has been pending in the Senate since August.

The CLARITY Act aims to clarify the regulatory environment for crypto by sharing oversight between the SEC and the CFTC. Under the proposal, the SEC would oversee tokens considered securities or investment contracts, while the CFTC would handle qualifying digital commodities and certain aspects of the spot market.

Crypto businesses would be required to register under the proposal and adhere to anti-money laundering requirements. Senators are currently disputing stablecoin rewards, safeguards for decentralized finance innovators, and ethical guidelines for government officials with crypto connections.
