SEC Clears First 3x Leveraged Bitcoin and Ether ETPs for US Trading
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved its first three times leveraged Bitcoin and Ether exchange-traded products (ETPs). On October 2, the SEC greenlit a Cboe BZX rule change allowing Volatility Shares to launch six futures-based ETPs offering three times the daily performance of Bitcoin, Ether, gold, silver, crude oil, or natural gas. The products reset daily, meaning sharp losses can hit fast in volatile or sideways markets.
The trading won't begin immediately pending a separate registration taking effect. This move is seen as a major step in expanding regulated crypto access, a notable shift given the SEC was still fighting spot Bitcoin ETFs in court just three years ago. The products will offer 3x leverage on the daily performance of their respective underlying assets.
