SEC Clears Path for Tokenized Stock Trading, Paving Way for Robinhood and Coinbase
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has granted a five-year exemption to the crypto industry, allowing certain exchanges to offer tokenized versions of stocks for trading.
Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ: HOOD) and Coinbase Global (NASDAQ: COIN) are well-positioned to profit from this new development.
Tokenization is the process of adding ownership records to tokens stored on a blockchain, enabling 24/7 trading and rapid settlement times compared to traditional methods.
The market for tokenized traditional assets is expected to expand from around $40 billion today to reach approximately $2.3 trillion by 2030, according to Oliver Wyman estimates.
